10 Things to Do the Day You Bring Your Cat Home

Set up a safe base room first. Give your cat one quiet room with food, water, a litter box, and a hiding spot before they explore the whole house.
Skip the welcome party. Keep the house calm and quiet for the first day — no visitors, no loud introductions to other pets yet.
Let them come to you. Sit on the floor nearby and let your cat approach on their own terms instead of reaching for them.
Show them the litter box right away. Gently place them near it so they know exactly where it is from the start.
Cat-proof the room. Tuck away cords, small objects, and anything dangling that looks chewable or swallowable.
Have food and water ready. Stick with whatever food they were eating before, if you know it, to avoid tummy upset on day one.
Book a first vet visit. Schedule a check-up within the first week or two, even if your cat seems perfectly healthy.
