Guinea pigs need fresh vegetables daily as part of their vitamin C intake, since โ like humans โ they can't produce their own. Bell peppers are an excellent choice and unusually high in vitamin C, along with leafy greens like romaine, cilantro, and parsley (in moderation, since parsley is high in calcium).
Cucumber, small amounts of carrot, and tomato (flesh only, not the leaves or stem) are also safe in moderation. Avoid iceberg lettuce, which offers little nutritional value and can cause digestive upset, and go easy on very calcium-rich foods for adult guinea pigs, since excess calcium can contribute to bladder stone risk.
Avoid feeding onions, garlic, potatoes, rhubarb, and anything from the allium family entirely, as these are toxic. Introduce new vegetables gradually and in small amounts, watching for any digestive upset, since a guinea pig's system can be sensitive to sudden diet changes.
